About Us
Communication is a basic human right. It is a big part of what defines us and connects us to each other. However, there are many for whom it does not come easily, such as non-speaking or minimally speaking autistic people. So what is such a person to do? Spend a lifetime locked in a prison of silence?
Recent innovations, both high and low-tech, have helped communication become more accessible to more people. Why haven’t they caught up and become widely used in schools and other settings everywhere?
Part of the problem is that lack of purposeful speech is often equated to a lack of intelligence. This attitude is very prevalent in the current educational and therapy models and impacts how these individuals are treated in everyday life. This results in low expectations, discrimination, frustration and isolation. What a waste of potential!
We are a non-profit organization and at our core is the belief that non-speaking individuals are capable of communication and education, given the right supports to help them succeed. We believe that they are worthy of a life with dignity and can be valued members of the community. Communication is the first step in achieving this.
Our mission is to help advocate for communication supports and promote public awareness. ,
